Church Training Workshops

Overview

In advance of a natural or human-caused disaster, the development and implementation of a training program to include exercises is critical to successfully caring for church property and the members of the congregation, including guests on the church campus.

Activity

Disaster preparedness training programs are offered in person and through webinars provided by PDA and other sources such as faith-based groups, non-profit organizations, and the Department of Homeland Security / Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Updates

September 2025

Charleston Atlantic Presbytery has programmed two half-day workshops for October 2025 for Teaching Elders and Ruling Elders to learn about the best practices for Resiliency when involved in a disaster recovery program. The programs will be held in North Charleston at the Presbyterian Office and a second program in the area of Bluffton, SC. Reach out to Elder Jeneane Ryan at 630.631.9702, jtryan3523@aol.com.

July 2025

The Foothills Presbytery recently sponsored a one-day presbytery commission preparedness workshop, which outlined the mission and goals of PDA and the SC PDAT. Additionally, methods of bringing congregations and the presbytery closer to the members of the church in preparedness and response to disasters on a local community basis.
